Once again, Ed Okun amazes us with his models on his favourite topic: Arab and Israeli air forces. Ed originally planned to have these two models ready for display in June 2007 (40 years aniversary of the Six Day War), but finished them early.
Both models are in scale 1:32, and have been completed at the same time, so to present adversaries from a very narrow slice of Middle-East history (in 1967). The Egyptian MiG-17 "2647" represents a plane that wore the checkerfields of the No.8 Squadron (this used to be the EAF air-display unit in the 1960s), and the insignia of the "Red Bat" Squadron. It was destroyed in Israeli air strikes against el-Arish air base, on the morning of 6 June 1967, and its wreckage later captured by Israeli ground units.
The basis for this model was an artwork, originally published on ACIG.org, back in 2003, and completed on the basis of a photograph showing the wreckage of this MiG-17F, as found by the Israelis at el-Arish.
The Mirage IIICJ Shahak is from Revell, and came into being ghrough conversion from IIIE to IIIC (which required some major surgery fore and aft). It is shown in the markings of No.119 "Bat" Squadron.
ACIG.org team would like to kindly thank Ed for his enthusiasm, cooperation and sharing photos of these unique models with us!
