This Fuerza Aérea Guatemalteca (Guatemaltec Air Force) A-37B is one of the aircraft known to have scored one of the most recent kills in the years-long "Anti-Drug War", fought between the regular forces of the USA and a number of Latin American air forces and drug-smugglers in Central America. The aircraft is one of 12 A-37Bs originally supplied to Guatemala, including serials A-400, A-404, A-408, A-412, A-416, A-420, A-424, A-428, A-432, A-436 (reserialled to A-440), A-444, and A-448. Out of these only four remain operational and based at La Aurora AB, while four other are kept in storage. A-408, A-412, A-420, A-440 and A-444 were written off. The insignia on the rear fuselage is that of the FAG A-37B unit, and shows a Dragonfly silhouette together with the Quetzal bird. (artwork by Tom Cooper) |
